Traditionally, cobles were built from oak and larch – oak for framing and larch for planks. Finding mature timber of suitable quality proved more tricky than we had anticipated. We were very  pleased to have help and advice, first from Macduff Shipyard then from Altyre Sawmill near Forres.

Timber was delivered to James Crombie’s farm near Portsoy where it was carefully stacked and  stored until required at our Workshop.
